Trattoria del Sole, meaning "Tavern of the Sun," was founded in 1985 by Chef Alessandro Rossi, a native of Bologna, Italy. Driven by a lifelong passion for authentic Italian cooking and a desire to share his culinary heritage with San Francisco, Alessandro set out to create a warm and inviting restaurant where guests could enjoy simple, delicious meals made with love.
Our philosophy is simple: use the finest ingredients, prepare them with care, and serve them with genuine Italian hospitality. We source our produce from local farms, our pasta is made fresh daily, and our wine list features a curated selection of Italian and Californian varietals. We believe that every meal should be a celebration of food, family, and friendship.
Over the years, Trattoria del Sole has become a beloved institution in North Beach, known for its cozy ambiance, friendly service, and, of course, its unforgettable food. Alessandro has since passed the torch to his daughter, Sofia Rossi, who continues to uphold his commitment to quality and tradition. Sofia has spent her entire life immersed in the world of Italian cuisine, and brings her own unique flair to the restaurant while honoring her father's legacy.
